FAQ
Here you can find answers to frequently asked questions about the Online Self-Assessments (OSAs).
General Information
What is an Online Self-Assessment (OSA)?
An OSA is a tool designed to support you in choosing a degree programme. It can help you better understand the demands of a programme by allowing you to compare your interests and expectations, but also test your prior knowledge. For more information on how our OSAs are developed, please visit our website.
Does the OSA assess my personality?
No. The OSA does not offer a general personality profile. Instead, you receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses in relation to your chosen field of study. The results are based solely on the information you provide yourself and reflect your own self-assessment.
Does the OSA measure my IQ?
No. Some OSAs include tasks that assess cognitive abilities, but you will not receive any feedback regarding your “general intelligence”. Rather, you’ll get feedback on specific skills (e.g., logical reasoning), always in the context of the respective degree programme.
Why don’t I get a clear recommendation for or against studying a specific degree programme?
While your answers in the OSA may provide insight into some key requirements for the programme, they cannot capture all relevant factors. Other aspects — such as whether you are working while studying or have caregiving responsibilities — also influence academic success. The feedback is meant to support your decision-making but cannot make the decision for you. Think of the OSA as an additional source of information to help guide your independent choice.
Does the OSA affect my university grades or count towards my degree?
No. Your OSA results are only visible to you and are not used in academic assessment or grading.
I didn’t perform well in the OSA. Now what?
Your results have no bearing on your application for admission, as they are not shared with others. A poor result does not mean you are unsuited for the programme — but it can highlight areas where you might want to improve. Review the tips and advice provided in the OSA for further guidance.

Who defined the requirements for each degree programme?
The requirements were developed by academic staff and students in collaboration with psychologists.
Implementation
Do I need to prepare for the OSA?
No preparation is necessary. The OSA is designed for self-assessment only. However, you should ensure that you are well rested and allow enough time to complete the tasks in order to obtain meaningful results.
Can I complete the OSA on my smartphone?
Technically, yes — but we recommend using a device with a larger screen, such as a PC, laptop, or tablet, for better usability.
When and how often can I take an OSA?
You can complete the OSAs at any time. They are free of charge and can be repeated as often as you like.
Does the OSA meet web accessibility standards?
The OSAs have been developed in line with basic accessibility standards for the web. Navigation via keyboard is supported, and most content can be read aloud using screen reader software. An optional high-contrast CSS with enlarged font can also be activated. We are continuously working to improve accessibility.
If you encounter any barriers or need support while completing the OSA, please contact our Accessibility Team: barrierefrei@univie.ac.at
How long will it take to complete the OSA?
Depending on the OSA, between 30 and 75 minutes to complete. The estimated duration is indicated at the beginning of each OSA. There is no time limit — take as much time as you need
Can I access my results again later?
Right after completing the OSA, you will have the option to save your results as a PDF feedback report.
However, if you close the browser window before saving, it will not be possible to access your results again.
I’m having technical issues — who can I contact?

OSA as part of a mandatory admission or entrance exam procedure
What do I need to know if the OSA is part of an admission or entrance exam procedure?
For some bachelor's programmes, the OSA is the first step of an admission or entrance exam procedure. In such cases, completing the OSA in full and on time is a prerequisite for continuing the admission process. At the end of the OSA, you can enter your email address to have your personal OSA code sent to you. If you use the same email address when applying in u:space, your code will be transferred automatically.
If you use a different email address, you will have to enter your OSA code manually during the admission process in u:space.
You’ll find the latest information on degree programmes with admission procedures on our website.
Why do I have to complete a mandatory OSA as part of the admission procedure?
The OSA is intended to help you choose a degree programme and prepare for your studies. The better informed you are — and the better you understand your strengths and weaknesses in relation to the subject — the more likely you are to choose a programme that suits you.
Where can I find official information about admission or entrance exam procedures at the University of Vienna?
